Yogalates

A new trend in yoga is its fusion with another popular form of exercise: Pilates. Pilates is meant to develop controlled movement from a strong core to guide and train the body. In its union with yoga, called ‘yogalates’, the moving relaxation of yoga is combined with Pilates’ small, concentrated repetitions.

“I find using Pilates more useful for my own body,” said Laura Via, student president of Chapman’s Fashion Squad and leader of a weekly yogalates class for its ‘Body Team’. “In the few weeks that we’ve done this, people have improved,” she said.

If you’re interested in trying this blended activity of traditional and modern techniques, it’s held Wednesdays on the lawn just outside the Davis Apartments. All you need is a mat or a towel. Meeting time varies, but you can check the Facebook group page ‘Fashion Squad Body Team’ for more information.
